Leiden university is developing a large-scale university campus at the Spui location in the center of The Hague. This new branch, originally a department store, will accomodate approximately 3,000 students and employees from September 2025. The renovation, which started in early 2023, will transform the building into a modern and sustainable academic environment, with lots of light and transparent, flexible study- and workplaces.
As a Project Controls Consultant within Baeken, I am part of the team working at University Campus The Hague. My job is to draw up and carefully manage the planning for the construction, which was designed by JHK Architects. I ensure coordination between the different disciplines and teams, and monitor the progress of construction work to ensure the timely completion of the campus.
The building, consisting of 6 floors, will be designed as a university center within which various partners, including the Open University, TU Delft and the University of the Netherlands, will rent their own educational and office spaces. The support spaces and services are used comunally. This will include a shared main entrance, bicycle cellar, restaurant with roof terrace on the second floor and a roof terrace on the sixth floor.
A light and professional educational location, with space for characterful elements, will be created in keeping with the appearance of the existing buildings and the ambitions of the university.
Within my role, I am the link between planning and implementation, and I contribute to transparant and effective project management. This includes drawing up detailed schedules, ensuring smooth integration of work and maintaining communication with all parties involved. With a keen eye for detail and progress, I strive to realize the ambitious goal of Leiden University and create an inspiring learning environment for future generations.
